Our Preschool Program
Our Preschool Program addresses all of the important areas of learning through play, and focuses on challenging children appropriately through their developmental ages and stages. It also offers children an opportunity to maximize their abilities to succeed. Strong teacher relationships ready children’s minds for learning. Our teachers provide care by talking to children respectfully; being sensitive to children’s needs, and validating their accomplishments and progress.
Preschool gives a gentle introduction to doing things in a certain order and following a daily plan. Structure and routine give children a sense of security and the feeling that they understand what’s happening in their world. Following routines also helps children adapt to transitions, the ability to change smoothly from one activity to another. However, it permits the flexibility and openness to follow children’s interests and address their needs. Learning through play offers children hands on experiences to develop problem solving skills, social skills and creative expression. Opportunity for outside play and activities is also presented daily.
Curriculum
Our curriculum offers daily, built-in opportunities for observation; helping teachers clearly see the strong relationship between curriculum and assessment. Through assessment, teachers obtain useful information about children’s knowledge, skills, and progress by observing, documenting, analyzing and reviewing children’s work over time. Student Portfolios are kept for each child to document growth and development through your preschooler’s work and progress reports are shared with parents quarterly. Our program provides teachers with the resources to individualize instruction; allowing them to meet the needs of every type of learner.
Classrooms
The Preschool classrooms are designed to nurture children’s natural inquisitiveness as they develop their independence, self-confidence, social and cognitive skills. Cognitive control skills can help your child develop the self-control and self-discipline, which can make them more successful throughout their school years. These skills help your child control impulses, pay attention, adapt to change and store and use information. These skills play a critical role in later education. We consider these skills more important indicators for school readiness than reading or math skills.
Environment
Age-appropriate materials, supplies, and equipment encourage developing confidence, self-esteem, and a love of learning. Our physical environment is divided in interest areas that offer multiple opportunities for children to explore, discover, and grow. In each area, the arrangement of furniture and materials involves children not only in learning, but also in caring for the classroom and what is in it. It also provides developmentally appropriate challenges, all while encouraging independence and exploration.
Every child has a designated space to hold personal items and supplies. Toys are sanitized on a daily basis. A child is permitted to bring in a small personal blanket for naptime. In the toddler classroom, parents are asked to provide diapers and baby wipes (if applicable) or pulls ups, which will continue to be supplied until the child is fully potty-trained. All children should have a hair brush for grooming and a complete change of clothes (underwear, shirt, pants or shorts, and socks) at school at all times for that occasional accident, or messy art project.
